In chapter 11 of our book Public Relations: Strategies and Tactics (9th Edition) how to reach a multicultural audience was discussed:

The most important lesson learned here was that you must have grasp on who your target audience is. What are their beliefs and customs? Be able to speak the language of your consumer. Do not use spokesmodels who are do not relate to your audience.

For instance you wouldn’t want to use Barney Fife or Bill O’Reilly as a spokesmodel for a fashion who’s target demographic is the urban male age 18-25.
